In my fifth area, I was in south Bakersfield. When I arrived in the area, there was a recently baptized member in an assisted living home. We went to visit her every week and on one occasion, we asked her if there was anyone who she would refer to us, she told us about her friend, Linda.

So a few days later, we set up an appointment with the recent convert and Linda. As we gathered, Linda began to pour out her heart to us, telling us of a son who had been homeless and she hadn't heard from in weeks. At this moment, my companion and I felt very under qualified for the job.  As she continued to tell us of many problems out of her control, we decided that we would try to listen the best we could and to talk a bit about prayer.

We didn't say much in that meeting, but after some time her countenance began to change. A sweet spirit filled the room, despite the chaos of the facility. As we left, we could tell that she felt the spirit but didn't know how to feel about it. She said, "Thank you for coming over today, but it just want to let you know, I don't want to be a 'Mormon'"

Gaining courage we replied, "If you knew what it meant to be a 'Mormon' you would want to be one." She didn't know what to say.

The next day her son arrived at the facility to visit his mother. Many other miracles followed, and a couple months later, she was baptized.
